About Awaken
Founded by me -Jo, and rooted in Malvern’s calm and creative energy, Awaken was born from a desire to bring together yoga, energy work, and conscious travel into one offering—one that supports not just the body, but the whole self.
After years in the travel industry, and a personal journey through burnout and reconnection, I began to weave together my love of exploration with a deeper inner practice. What started as teaching yoga has grown into something more expansive—an invitation to slow down, tune in, and awaken to yourself.
Awaken now moves beyond the traditional studio model, offering a more flexible and intentional way to practice. From weekly classes to monthly events, reiki, workshops, and retreats, each offering is designed to create space—for breath, for awareness, and for meaningful connection.
Classes and events are held in carefully chosen spaces, including The Grange in Great Malvern, where a light-filled room overlooking Priory Park provides a calm and grounding setting. Retreats and travel experiences extend this further, creating opportunities to step away from the everyday and reconnect more deeply.
At its heart, Awaken is about coming back to yourself. My passion and goal is to create a community where people can truly be seen, heard, and held; where we all can move, connect, and grow in body, mind, and spirit. And let’s face it, in the busy world we all live in, this is very much needed.
Awaken is a labour of love, something I pour my true self, heart and soul into. Whether you join for a class, an event or a retreat, simply enjoy a moment of pause, you are always welcome here.
I so look forward to everything Awaken can become.
About Jo
Yoga Teacher, Reiki Practitioner & Ayurvedic Practitioner (in training)
Founder and owner of Awaken & Awaken Retreats, I am a beachy boho soul with a love for sunsets, the ocean, and life’s simple magic – and most importantly, a proud mummy. My journey into yoga began during a season of burnout, when I felt lost in life, craved stillness and needed space to breathe.
Quite quickly into my teacher training, I knew I wanted to share the practice with others. The thought of teaching at that time was scary and felt overwhelming. With a 1 year old, adapting to the new identity of being a full time mummy and working part time, where did I even start. But 1 thing that I always have is unbelievable optimism. A dreamer, a go getter. I knew that what yoga had offered me in the past few years was so precious that I had to share it with others.
And that I have! You’ll find my teaching style is just how I am in my day to day life. Authentic, honest, witty and encouraging. Classes are fun and down to earth, with no expectations on ‘how’ they should be. Whilst I ensure a safe and practical practice, I will always promote the phrase of ‘ it’s how it feels, not what it looks like’. There is no perfection, no ‘it needs to look like’… I teach yoga in the way it was authentically taught, a practice to mindfulness and to your higher self.
Always eager to continue my education and deepen my yoga journey, I am currently undertaking my 1000-hour Ayurvedic Practitioner qualification through an Ayurvedic hospital based in Rishikesh, India—the birthplace of yoga and a place deeply rooted in ancient healing traditions. This immersive training is allowing me to deepen my understanding of the body, mind, and spirit through the lens of Ayurveda, learning how to work with individual constitutions, balance the doshas, and support true, sustainable wellbeing.
As I weave this knowledge into Awaken, my intention is to offer a more holistic and personalised approach—integrating yoga, lifestyle guidance, seasonal practices, and subtle inner work—so that each person can feel more aligned, nourished, and connected to their own natural rhythm.
My teachings are an invitation to slow down, be present and just be. Rooted in mindfulness and energy awareness, I am passionate about creating a nurturing environment where everyone feels held, inspired, and at home.
…and through my classes, community and retreats, I hope to offer exactly that! x
TESTIMONIALS
What my students are saying!
Jo also runs retreats where she takes care of everything
I’ve been looking for a new home for my yoga practice and finding this one is a dream come true.
I was made to feel very welcome by Jo upon arrival. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. I love the cozy feel Awaken gives up to around 8 students and the teacher. The classes I did were back to back, I love a double class. I did a gentle vinyasa flow followed by a beautiful yin, perfect for me.
Awakens ethos on wellness and adventure is perfect for me and Jo also runs retreats where she takes care of everything from transport to the airport, flights, yoga and adventure at the retreat and all the transport home, I can’t wait to try one. As you tell I really enjoyed my first classes and will be returning this week and for the foreseeable future. Thank you Jo, See you soon x
